Biography

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and have been interested in helping people by listening to their concerns most of my life. Even in elementary school, I would walk up to kids who were upset at recess and ask what was wrong.

After get my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Austin College, I took a detour into elementary education but soon realized the best way I could help people was to return to my first love, counseling. In pursue of that goal I completed a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

While complete hours to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I worked at Integral Care, the local mental health authority for Travis County, providing outpatient case management services to individuals with chronic mental health issues, including schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other psychotic disorders. I then transitioned to Capital Area Counseling, an Austin non-profit organization focusing on providing affordable counseling to the Austin community. Once I got my full counseling license, I spend 3 years at Plumeria counseling in South Austin. In January 2021, I started Lauren Ryan Counseling, my own virtual private practice where I continue offering video counseling to children and adults.

I have completed advanced training in integral breathe therapy and in the Nuero Affective Relational Model (Narm) for treating complex trauma and emotional neglect.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time in the green spaces of Austin, hiking, reading, and taking pictures. I also enjoy connecting with friends over dinner, listening to music, unwinding at home, and making jewelry.
